The MuseumApp is our product for museums with which they can independently create interactive indoor and outdoor tours for smartphones. The MuseumApp conveniently bundles and arranges all the tours from the participating cultural institutions.
Working with launching customer Amsterdam Museum and research partner Waag Society, we developed the MuseumApp. The MuseumApp is a product with which museums can independently create interactive city tours and games for smartphones. These mobile tours show cultural content at city locations using interactive media. Using the app, the audience will discover cultural places in the city and engage with the stories behind a museum's collections. Many Dutch museums use the museumapp to reach new target groups and to present them a new cultural experience.
The MuseumApp bundles the tours of all participating museums conveniently into one app. The advantage is that all cultural content is available in one app, so that the city, the museums, the different collections and the users are all connected to each other.
The MuseumApp consists of three elements:
TourMaker: The online content management system to independently create and manage Tours. Simply connect media, tasks and opinions to locations in the city. Or create Indoor Tours!
The Apps: Using their iPhone or Android, visitors navigate locations to delve deeper into a city's culture. They can share their experiences and pictures instantly via Facebook and Twitter..
Tour Community: Tours are available at all times in the Tour Community on the website. Analyze all statistics and check the pictures and experiences of your visitors online. You publish your Tours in your own channel.
The initiative is supported by the Amsterdam Museum, Waag Society, Stichting DOEN and the Bank Giro Loterij. Antenna International supports the MuseumApp in Amsterdam and offers her advise and expertise for the production of the tours.
Museums already participating are: Amsterdam Museum, Cobra Museum, Het Schip (The Ship), Iamsterdam, Joods Historisch Museum (Jewish Historical Museum), NiNsee, Persmuseum (Pressmuseum), Rijksdienst voor het cultureel erfgoed (Service for cultural heritage), Rembrandthuis (Rembrandt’s home), Maritiem Museum, Haags Historisch Museum and Theater Instituut Nederland (Theatre Institute the Netherlands).
